3 Healthy Tricolour Food Recipes To Make This Patriotic Day

Republic Day 2021 is just around the corner, it is time to soak in the celebrations with the healthy tricolour food recipes.

Celebrate your Patriotic Day with these fun, healthy, simple, and delicious food recipes that are naturally tri-colored – that is right, not a drop of food coloring in sight! You will have as much fun making these dishes as you will eating them.

Tricolour Sandwiches


Sandwiches always come first in everyone’s mind whenever they feel craving for something fulfilling and a quick meal. Celebrate the day with this simple sandwich recipe by putting a little twist into it. Yes, these are yummy tricolor sandwiches.



  • Eight slices of white bread 
  • Butter as per taste

Orange Layer

  • One cup grated carrot
  • Two tbsp low-fat mayonnaise  
  • Salt to taste

Green Layer

  • One cup grated cottage cheese (paneer)
  • Four tbsp green chutney
  • Salt to taste


  • For the orange layer, combine the carrots, mayonnaise, and salt.
  • For the green layer, combine along with the cottage cheese, green chutney, and salt.
  • Cut the side edges of the bread.
  • Place a slice of the bread.
  • Spread the green layer evenly over it.
  • Place a slice of bread over it, coat with butter.
  • Place a slice of white bread over the butter.
  • Spread the orange layer over the slice of white bread and top it with a slice of white bread.
  • Press it down gently.
  • Cut each sandwich into two triangles or rectangles and serve immediately.

Tricolour Rice


Rice is a primary food for almost the entire country. Celebrate this Patriotic Day with this wonderful medley of rice recipes. You would enjoy the taste of each color of rice-tricolor rice.



  • One cup rice 

Orange Rice

  • One small onion, chopped
  • Two tomatoes, pureed
  • One tsp red chili powder
  • One-Half tsp garam masala powder
  • One tbsp oil
  • One-Half tsp mustard seeds (rai)

White Rice

  • One tbsp oil
  • One-Half tsp mustard seeds (rai)
  • One tbsp split Bengal gram (channa dal)
  • One tbsp split black lentils (urad dal)
  • Three tbsp grated coconut 

Green Rice

  • Four sprigs of coriander
  • One green chili
  • One tbsp cashew nuts (or coconut)
  • One tbsp oil
  • One-Half tsp mustard seeds (rai)
  • One tbsp split black lentils (urad dal)



First cook the rice so that each grain is separated. Keep it aside until it cools down. Once it has cooled down, proceed further.

Orange Rice

  • Heat the oil in a kadhai and cook the mustard seeds until they pop.
  • Add the chopped onions and cook them for one or two minutes.
  • Add the tomato puree, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt.
  • Cook it until the oil leaves the masala.
  • Take one-third of the boiled rice and toss it with the masala.
  • Check the flavorings and then switch it off.

White Rice

  • Heat the oil in a kadhai and cook the mustard seeds until they pop.
  • Add the channa dal and urad dal.
  • Fry them on low heat until they flip golden brown.
  • Add the grated coconut and roast it for simply a minute.
  • Add the salt into it and in another third of the rice and mix well. 
  • Switch it off.

Green Rice

  • Put the coriander leaves, cashews, and green chili in a blender.
  • Make a smooth paste with a bit of water.
  • Heat the oil in a kadhai and cook the mustard seeds until they pop.
  • Fry the urad dal and then add that paste.
  • Cook it for some minutes, until the raw smell is gone.
  • Add salt into it and mix in the remaining rice.
  • Switch it off.

Arrange these colored rice as per our National Flag. Serve it with your favorite curry.

Tricolour Idli


Idli is best to have in breakfast as it is rich in fiber and protein, which helps you keep satiated. Also, the fiber helps promote good digestion which is a key to maintaining the right body weight.


You will frequently make and eat plain idli at home. But let us tell you that on Patriotic Day, you can make three-color idli by putting a little twist into it. Yes, we are talking about the Tricolor Idli.


  • Idli batter as required

Orange Batter

  • One big tomato
  • Two red chilies

Green Batter

  • One cup coriander or mint leaves  
  • One green chili
  • One-Four tsp cumin seeds (jeera)



Take the idli batter and separate it into three equal parts. Keep one section out for the white-colored idlis.

Orange Batter

  • Chop the tomatoes into chunks.
  • Cook the tomatoes and red chilies for just a couple of minutes.
  • Cool it and grind it into an even paste.
  • Combine it with one portion of the batter to make the orange-colored idlis.

Green Batter

  • Chop the coriander or mint leaves roughly.
  • Cook them with the green chilies for just one or two minutes to get rid of the raw flavor.
  • Cool it and grind it into a smooth paste.
  • Mix it with the third section of the batter to make the green-colored idlis.

Use the plain batter, orange batter, and green batter to create three different colored idlis. Arrange these idlis on a plate as per the national flag. Serve it straightforward.
